Using Natural Ingredients to Exfoliate the Skin

There are many homemade beauty treatments that can be used to make the skin look and feel more beautiful. Using natural products, gathered from your kitchen cupboard, will nourish your skin whilst removing the dead skin cells to give your skin a more youthful and gorgeous look, without the use of harsh chemicals.

Making your own beauty treatments at home can be fun and exciting, especially when visible results are achieved, at very little cost. Planning the treatment will prevent missed ingredients and ensure a positive and enjoyable experience.

Exfoliating the skin, is an excellent first step, when aiming for glowing skin. The following home beauty treatment uses ordinary table sugar to deeply cleanse the skin, loosen dead skin cells, cleanse pores and gives the skin a radiant and gorgeous look.

Ingredients needed for Home Exfoliation

  • Cleansing Cream
  • Mild Toner
  • A rich, nourishing moisturising cream
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar placed in a small saucer
  • Damp Cotton Pads

How to exfoliate your skin

  1. Cleanse the face using gentle upward and outward movements
  2. Remove the cleanser with damp cotton wool pads
  3. Tone the skin with a mild toning lotion (eg rosewater) applied to damp cotton pads
  4. Apply a thick layer of moisturising cream to skin
  5. Coat the fingertips with sugar from the saucer, and gently work over the skin, avoiding the eyes at all times
  6. As the skin heats, and the sugar softens, apply a slightly firmer pressure over the skin, paying attention to nose and chin areas. A gentle pressure is needed over bony areas e.g. forehead
  7. Massage for 5 - 10 minutes
  8. Gently remove with damp cotton pads, taking care not to scrape the skin
  9. Splash with plenty of luke warm water

This homemade beauty recipe may be used once weekly, bi-weekly, or if skin is very sensitive, once a month will be sufficient.
